Job Description:
The Senior estimator is responsible to the VP of Sales, and its clients for providing a wide variety of advanced tasks for the estimating department and its team members.
Overall Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
Secure targeted projects that provide the best opportunity for winning a successful job proposal.
Identify new bid opportunities within our established and future client base.
Monitor and enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Provide pre-construction services including budgetary services and project material requirements to select clients.
Provide Building and Fire Code review / guidance to Architects and General Contractors when code issues arise.
Participate in bi-weekly Sales meeting to establish short and long term estimating agenda along with feedback and input from other estimators in implementing margins for upcoming bid opportunities.
Participate in bi-weekly Sales meeting to discuss vendor issues as it relates to pricing, material issues, delivery schedules etc…
Conduct jobsite visits for targeted accounts or bid opportunities.
Evaluate new requests for proposals to facilitate the best opportunities are being worked upon.
Review and detail plans and specifications as it relates to the project.
Prepare a job workbook used in bidding the specific project and detail it sufficiently to ensure the Project Management team can work from this workbook when awarded the project.
Detail and assign costs to all material and labor involved in the project.
Secure multiple quotes from different material vendors to ensure WWI competitiveness in formatting a successful bid proposal.
Coordinate with the Purchasing agent to ensure all material costs will be covered sufficiently.
Coordinate with Field Superintendent on difficult field installations to ensure field labor costs will be covered.
Coordinate estimating activities when involved in bidding on the same project.
Maintain regular contact with team members to ensure coordinated efforts thus maximizing our estimating coverage.
Maximize product / service scope opportunities within designated accounts / bid invitations.
Deliver WWI value-engineering alternates where possible on bid proposals.
Meet on a monthly basis with department heads (Field, Shop, APS) to receive their feedback as it relates to sales and estimating efforts currently being employed, which includes client information, estimating times, etc…
Regularly maintain and update the Bid Log to ensure projects are not double covered by estimators.
Regularly update and maintain the New Job Log when successfully awarded a new project.
Monitor and report bidding progress on outstanding projects yet to be awarded.
Participate in yearly planning meeting.
Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual otherwise qualified must be able to perform each overall duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, additional qualifications, and/or ability required.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Work requires an extensive knowledge business, of the construction industry, specific product knowledge of doors, frames and hardware, codes, standards, architectural drawings, specifications and an excellent command of the English language.
• Must have knowledge of office administrative procedures, and knowledge of use and operation of standard office equipment, at a level generally acquired through 5+ years related experience.
• Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets and database.
• Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
• Some analytical ability is required in order to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work.
• Work requires continual attention to detail, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend and explain documents such as architectural drawings, specifications, contractor instructions, and procedure manuals in English. Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, in English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, area, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in writing, orally, by diagram, or schedule format. Must be able to make decisions based on common sense judgment.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma and 10 years experience.
